Purpose/Objective:
Over 20,000 patients have been treated with partial breast irradiation (PBI) using the MammoSiteTM (MS) brachytherapy applicator which consists of a balloon catheter with a single port for passage of a HDR source. Recently, a new form of PBI has been introduced, ClearPathTM (CP) breast brachytherapy, which consists of a multi-channel catheter which can be inserted through a single breast incision like the MS device. The multiple channels in the CP device, like interstitial breast brachytherapy, allow increased dose optimization and potentially the ability to decrease dose to the surrounding normal tissues. We present our results of a dosimetric comparison of MS and CP PBI.
